PCI
Sound Laboratory
This
facility (right) was designed by JGL Acoustics, Inc. in 1998
to allow testing of duct silencers and acoustical lining in accordance
with ASTM E 477. The focal point of PCI Industries' new testing
laboratory is a 31,000 cubic ft. reverberation chamber. The chamber
is constructed entirely of concrete and concrete block with brightly
colored, lightweight diffuser panels mounted to the walls and ceiling
to provide low frequency absorption.

The 650,000 lb.
reverberation chamber (left) is floating on steel springs,
and is located inside a larger building to reduce noise infiltration
from exterior sources. The facility is designed to test duct silencers
and acoustical lining with an air flow capacity up to 50,000 CFM.
The laboratory is currently certified by NVLAP for testing in accordance
with ASTM E 477 and ANSI S12.31 and ANSI S12.32. The photo to the
left shows the rotating microphone boom, which moves the measurement
microphone along a circular path through the reverberation chamber.
The boom makes a full 360 degree rotation every 32 seconds. |
